The hit-confirmation for backstabs is indeed one of the few things that I think have helped improved PvP in Dark Souls 2. I really find it sad and pathetic that so many people here are nostalgic for the days of magnetic snap-on-stab backstabs. The problem is not the hit confirmation.
I know that the natural reaction for evading a backstab would be to roll away, but in Dark Souls PvP rolling is what you absolutely shouldn't do when evading backstab attempts. Backstabs can override the i-frames of rolls, so if you roll away from a backstab attempt it would almost definitely result in a backstab, something that looks like this For Dark Souls on the PlayStation 3, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "Dark souls II shouldn't have backstabs.". Pvp in dark souls 2 in my opinion is the best out of the series, everything pretty much functioned exactly how it should, the only issue it ran into was the prevalence of slightly op meta builds. I would actually say that I enjoyed Dark souls 1 pvp the least, it was still fun but it was a little too "janky" in some aspects, back stabs being one
Backstabs in Demon's Souls PvP actually were different than in Dark Souls PvP. In Demon's Souls you cancelled backstab damage by rolling and could reduce the damage by blocking. In Dark Souls you cancelled backstab damage by hitting the other player before being backstabbed on your screen, but after they landed the backstab on their own screen.
Including blocking people who do not follow MY rules. 4) Anyone may speak anything about how cool one is. But when a time comes to proof, after loosing to me a few honest battles in a row, noobs are start using chained backstabs. Meantime I try to avoid any backstabs as much as possible (there is a nuance that this is about my pure GC pyromancer).

Backstab setups are generally objective and will work under any connection. If you are getting backstabbed repeatedly, look for a connection like "swinging a third time" or something like that, that's getting you backstabbed.
Backstabs are Dark Souls' main punish tool, but because of the way they work and the 'ease' they can be landed with, they have also become one of the game's main forms of offense. This means that if you ever want to get anywhere in PVP, you'll at least need to have a basic understanding of how to do and how to avoid them.
